Barn dancing is lots of fun. You do not even need to know what to do as a "caller" will explain everything as you go along. It helps to know your left foot from your right foot but it is surprising how many people manage without even knowing that.

Celebrations

Barn dancing is particularly good for celebrations, birthday parties, anniversaries, weddings, or club and work socials, as the dancing suits all ages and all abilities, you are told how to do it, and those who do not want to dance have just as much fun watching everyone else. However many find the music so compelling that it is difficult not to get up and dance! You do not even need a partner as the caller will find one for you.

Ripchord Barn Dance Band

Felicity has been playing the accordion for 30 years and played for barn dancing since 1985. The first band was called "Jiggery Polkary" which had eight members. Ripchord was formed later in 1988 and usually consists of 3 musicians and a caller. However, for smaller parties the band will play with 2 musicians and a caller. Felicity goes solo with a caller for parties of 50 or less. Felicity also calls to taped music for those who do not want a full band. The band has experience of playing for all abilities - even the profoundly deaf! Felicity is also happy to teach barn dancing to schools, clubs or organisations.

Health & Safety

The band has public liability insurance and the electrical equipment used to amplify the sound has all been portable appliance tested.
