Mountain Biking and Cycling in Powys

Details of cycle routes around Llanidloes available - please ask

Clywedog from the top of Deildre The lanes around Cwm Deildre are very quiet for cycling along with beautiful views, although they are steep in places. For longer rides or for those who want to follow the national cycle route  P and C Taxis  01686 412047  are happy to drop you off and meet you at various points along the way.

Cwm Deildre is on the National Cycle Route: Lon Las Cymru We have many customers staying on their journey along this route which follows the river Wye and through the Gilfach Nature Reserve to the south. To the North it passes Llyn Clywedog and follows the mountain road to Machynlleth. Some enthusiasts had cycled 68 miles from Brecon in one day to reach us and planned to do 80 miles to Harlech the next, doing south to north Wales in four days! For the less energetic there is a lovely cycle way along the Elan Valley Lakes. Stunning views all the way and tea at the visitor center afterwards.

Mountain Biking
Nant Yr Arian is 8 miles due east on Aberystwyth Road. Several routes marked starting at the Forest Visitor Center where they feed the Red Kites daily at 2 p m in the winter and 3 p m in the summer. Nant-yr-Arian combine new sections of hand built single track, with longer natural routes. These use fire road and natural high mountain trails to create challenging often technical routes combining stunning scenery and strenuous riding. These trails have been developed to provide excellent all weather riding rather than a soggy slog, but don't worry, if it's epic riding you're after these centers truly deliver.

Machynlleth
The 3 waymarked routes of Machynlleth use rights of way which can take you from quiet country roads, through rushing river valleys and up onto technical mountainside trails and single track depending on your enthusiasm. Surrounding forestry also gives plenty of unmarked technical free ride fun. The CTC routes at Llanwrtyd Wells are less technically testing, but no less beautiful, combining bridle ways and forest tracks with quiet roads and green lanes. If you're after a more 'serious' riding experience the masses of local trails in the surrounding mountains and forests let you plan routes as technical and severe as you want.

Llanwrtyd Wells, although officially Britain's smallest town, has been big on mountain biking since it began, with the famous Man v Horse v Bike back in operation (usually in June see Diary page for further information) The waymarked riding includes low to mid level CTC routes, following minor roads, green lanes and forest tracks through the beautiful river valleys and rolling hills. There's also a great number of trails leading into more challenging mountain areas, making this a perfect short break center for every level of rider.

Hay on Wye Drover Holidays offer supported cycling and walking holidays in Mid Wales. They also provide bike hire for those who want to explore independently. Several of their routes go through or near Llanidloes.  Drover Holidays
